Long handled secateurs!

Managed to fit in 3 hours at Bank Island this afternoon. I managed to get to the hides in between the rain showers.

The above picture was taken from the first hide, hence the title of the blog. It is the time of year when the vegetation has grown and is obscuring the view from the hide. So excuse the pictures as I have tried to remove the grass etc, from them.

Plenty of action on the scrape mostly provided by the two pairs of common terns.

I  saw 3 common tern chicks on the island, there could have been more, as I was not able to work out to which pair the chick/chicks belonged.

A little egret landed on the island and was immediately dive bombed.

A pair of oystercatchers had 2 young

A curlew came in for a bathe

but it was chased away by a little grebe

these 3 red legged partridges were running away from a moorhen.

a banded damoiselle landed briefly.

This is the view from the other hide.

Still some open water, where 2 grey herons and 6 little grebes were fishing, but not as good views as the first hide, despite the vegetation!

A pleasant 3 hours with 30 birds on my day list.
