Garganey and grass snakes at Blacktoft

The view from Ousefleet hide at 7am this morning. A pleasant start to a Bank Holiday Sunday, with early morning sunshine. Shelduck, gadwall, mallard, pochard and tufted duck on the lagoon.

Mute swans and more ducks on Marshland  and the other hides.

Sedge warblers were now visible as they were singing from the reedbeds near the footpaths.

another year tick.

Visitors soon started to arrive and Stu and I took it in turns to help people park, as the car park was rapidly filling up. After lunch a visitor came in and informed us that grass snakes could be seen from Townend hide. Stu went to see them and then I went and took this photo

A little while later Catherine came into reception to report that a male garganey had just landed in front of First hide.

A pleasant surprise and a nice bird to end the day  with.
