Had to get a slow puncture sorted, so not much time for birding. Drove to Staveley, but the car park was full. On my last visit I managed to get the last space in the car park, but did not see anyone on the reserve, I do find it annoying that people use the car park and then go elsewhere!
Drove to Nosterfield. I have never seen the water level so low and so few birds.
The highlight was 30 curlew. Went to Lingham Water and Flask Lake.
Again not many birds and no sign of the little owl. A carrion crow was feeding on a dead rabbit.
I walked a bit further along the path until I was out of sight and waited in case a buzzard or red kite saw it and flew in for a meal, but no such luck. 5 new birds for my year list.
