After seeing the Pectoral Sandpiper at Margrove Pond, Barbara and I went to Hartlepool Headland and enjoyed an hours sea watching
Lots of gannets out fishing along with sandwich and common terns. A few guillemots on the sea and eiders in eclipse plumage. A dark phase arctic skua flew south towards Seaton Snook, while several fulmars glided over the waves. we enjoyed watching lots of young kittiwakes flying about.
A flock of about 100 starlings landed in front of us, one had a white tail feather.
RSPB Saltholme was our last stop.
Sand martins were bringing food to their young in the sand martin bank. Common terns were perched on the top of posts on the nearest island. On the way back from the Wildlife Watchpoint we had an encounter with an adult moorhen and two young.
