My first stop was Bank island. Footpaths were under water and very few birds on the water.
The viewing platform at Thorganby was better bird wise. Lapwings, teal and wigeon, and then a large military plane flew over, very low. all the birds took to the air and flew off, and that was the end of that.
North Duffield Carrs was my final stop. 3 vehicles in the car park, which was unusual. By the end of my visit, I met 18 people, a very busy day!
As I walked towards the first hide, I stopped at the viewing screen and watched about 100 fieldfares busily feeding in the field. The usual flock of linnets, with a few yellowhammers, reed buntings and chaffinches.
From Garganey hide, I could see lots of teal, wigeon, shoveler, pintail, mallard, canada and greylag geese.
After 90 minutes, I walked back to the Geoff Smith hide. I met Peter and Elaine on the way.
From the hide, I saw a pair of stonechats on the scrape, a curlew and a pair of redshanks on some exposed vegetation.
A pleasant 3.5 hours.
